What’s better than being a pet parent to amazing cat(s)? They are known for their cute, sassy behavior and also being one of the prettiest domesticated creatures. In addition to being beautiful to look at, they are also known for being incredibly smart and sweet.

 

Most cats are (in)famous for loving their personal space, and as cat lovers we cherish the times that they show us that they adore us back too. A lot of people tend to be apprehensive when it comes to knowing about what comes with being pet parent especially when it comes to cats and kittens. This is mainly because there are a lot of misconceptions about cats being high maintenance, or cats not being loving or loyal and many other untrue facts spread about them. In reality, cats are extremely loyal and loving creatures who just happen to love their personal space a little bit more than dogs do. They just like to be around you, naturally make your day better and if cared for and loved for well, they tend to get extremely attached, loving and loyal towards you. 

 

This is why it is always a great idea to adopt a cat if you do not already have one. However, what is more important is the fact that you need to know how to care for them in addition to knowing and respecting their boundaries well. It is also important to remember that every cat is different and depending on when you adopt them and what their life was like before that happened, so you need to treat each cat carefully and get to know them at their (and your) own pace.

1. Play with your cat – As important it is to respect their space, cats love it when you spend time playing with them. It is a great way to bond with them and also express to them that they are loved, cherished and that you have plenty of fun with them.

 

1. Have cat scratchers – Even though this might seem like just a toy to own, it is important that you get cat scratchers for your cat. It not only keeps them busy but also works as a way for them to shed dead and overgrown nails.

 

1. Keep them hydrated – Cats are not huge fans of drinking water directly. However, they need it for healthy sustenance. Which is why, you need to hydrate them through food (wet food) regularly to keep them healthy.

 

1. Be careful with plants – Just like you would be with your children, always research what plants might be harmful to your cat before deciding to bring home plants whether it is for decoration or for your garden. There are some plants like Chrysanthemum, Daffodils, Castor Bean that most cats are allergic to but there might also be some plants only your cat might exclusively be allergic to. You can try to get a vet check them out for allergies.

 

1. No yarns – Yes we know! It’s popular to let cats play around with balls of yarn. However, it is actually not advisable because they either might get lodged in your cta’s throat, or your cat might ingest it causing a whole lot of (sometimes fatal) digestion problems.

 

1. Space – Make the environment that they are bred in cheerful, you can do this with toys, buy them little fake plants or a stand to play with (and on). Keeping them engaged will keep them happy and also keep them healthy.
